Green Enterprise Car Rentals

April 10, 2008 |

Here’s a good story for those who believe that the future of green energy really is in the hands of the consumer! Enterprise rental car have just opened 4 ‘Green Branches’ in Atlanta, where they have seen a particularly high demand from customers for hybrid and efficient vehicles.

The branches will be equipped with around 1/3 hybrid gas/electric vehicles in their fleet and 1/3 fuel efficient models. The high mpg cars will have a minimum rating of 28 miles per gallon average. Emory Area Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Downtown Area Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Dunwoody Area Enterprise Rent-A-Car and (the largest outlet) Buckhead Area Enterprise Rent-A-Car have all experienced high demand for such vehicles.

Buckhead alone will be the base for approximately 50 hybrid vehicles, which may not sound a lot for a city the size of Atlanta - but its certainly a start. Rental cars are an area where the benefits of a hybrid can have a particular effect, especially when you consider the amount of miles these cars do i na year and the hours that they spend running with minimal ‘down-time’.

“For us, environmental stewardship is about sustaining our business for the long term by addressing the parts of the world our business touches. Embracing new technologies like hybrids is a step in the right direction to reduce vehicle emissions and limit our dependence on fossil fuels.” - Dan Miller, Vice President Enterprise and GM, Atlanta.

Enterprise also gave $25million to create a Renewable Fuels Sponsored Institute at the Donald Danforth Science Center, St. Louis. This program will concentrate on finding ‘acceptable alternatives’ to finite fossil fuels with a focus on developing fuels from reliable plant sources. Say what you like about big business dragging their heels on green energy - once you move over the line from car manufacturer to car provider, there is an ever more inherent need to generate customer sattisfaction. When customers start to really switch on and need more sustainable vehicles, the precedent is set - which I think is great news.
